November 2009
Well it’s certainly been a pretty typical spring – at least what I’ve experienced of it so far! The weather pattern has been a Disturbed Westerly. This mean the wind changes from NW to SW Moderate to Strong Gale conditions without very many stable patches – essentially the high pressure systems move straight north without crossing onto the South Island.
In a word – Windy!
There have been a few stable patches and a number of mates have been in the hills ticking off some ascents and descents – I’ve just been enjoying relaxing for the last two weeks, swimming, a bit of cragging, paragliding and some speed riding.
This summer I’m working for Alpine Guides – based in Mt Cook village. I’m still hanging out in Wanaka though!
Next week I’m off upto the mighty Kelman Hutat the head of the Tasman glacier to start a technical mountaineering course. Should be great conditions and heaps of fun!
I’ll also be trying to get some Speedflying in over the summer – based from the West Coast and with an eye to climbing and flying off Mt Cook.
When I get some images of conditions I’ll post em up.
Mal.
