Bush Stream

Winter is upon us and the ice is forming.  I've not persoanlly been up to bush Stream yet  – however I will be in there from the 12th to the 16th of July so will be able to post up some conditions reports after that

Some info on freezing levels.

Typically the climbing there is all above 1300m except for the Grotto which is at 1000m (download pdf guide)

If the temperatue in the Village is sitting near 6 degrees most days then you'll probably have a good chance of ice forming, melting and refreezing.  The Grotto will only form on really cold periods – typically when the temp at the village or road end is consistently going up and down near 0 degrees.

Snow on ice

We get lots of snow on ice with further freeze thaw events making for hollowish ice at times – beware of rotten snow over ice.

Access

It is crucial that you contact the sation owners and gain permission to go into Bush Stream.  If the valley is in use by hunters then you will not be able to go in.  the same is true if climbers are in there – hunters aren't able to come in.
